    4주 동안의 head-down suspension을 시행한 흰쥐 신장의 산화적 손상기전

    Abstract : Background : The purpose of this study was to observe the variation of malondialdehyde (MOA), an indirect index of oxidative damage, following 4-week of head-down suspension (HOS) at -45° in rats as a model of simulated weightlessness. Methods : We also measured the activities of antioxidant enzymes, such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) and catalase for clarifying the mechanisms of renal oxidative damage. Results : MDA was increased (P<0.05) at the 4th week of HOS rats compared to control horizontal positioned rats. Following HOS, the renal activity of SOD was also significantly increased (P<0.01) at the 4th week of HOS whereas the changes of renal GSH-Px and catalase activities were not significantly different from controls. The expression of renal SOD mRNA used by polymerase-chain reaction method showed the similar pattern with the change of renal SOD activity and was more increased (P<0.05) than control horizontal positioned rat. Conclusion : These results indicate that simulated weightlessness induces the augmented SOD gene expression in the kidney which results in increased SOD activity, and thus increased production of MDA due to increased production of hydrogen peroxide. And under this condition, GSH-Px and catalase do not play their protective roles against hydrogen peroxide.

    Abstract : Background : Head-down suspension (HOS) of rats has evolved as a useful model for the simulation of a microgravity environment. Atrial natriuretic peptides (ANP) and brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) have been considered to comprise the cardiac natriuretic peptide family responsible for body fluid homeostasis and blood pressure control. However, little is known about the long-term responses and the simultaneous observations of both ANP and BNP following HOS. Therefore, this study was aimed to characterize the long-term adaptations of cardiac ANP and BNP syntheses to 4 weeks of HOS in rats. Methods : Unanesthetized, unrestrained, male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to either a horizontal position (control rats) or a 45° head-down tilt using the tail-traction technique (HOS rats). We determined the cardiac synthesis of natriuretic peptides as a expression of ANP and BNP mRNA, The expressions of natriuretic peptide mRNA were measured by reverse transcription- polymerase chain reaction with [32P]-dCTP following 4 weeks of HOS in the each cardiac chamber of control and HOS rats. Result : After 4 weeks of HOS, the expressions of ANP mRNA were decreased in the both right (P<0.05) and left atria. The ANP mRNA in the ventricles did not show significant changes compared with control values. In contrast with ANP, BNP mRNA was only decreased in the left atrium (P<0.05) and revealed the non-significant decreasing trend in the right ventricle. There were no remarkable changes of BNP mRNA expression compared with control rats in the both right atrium and left ventricle. Conclusion : Collectively, these results represent that the cardiac syntheses of natriuretic peptides following 4 weeks of HOS are attenuated to prevent any decrement of body fluid as a long-term adaptive response to simulated microgravity and ANP and BNP genes have the differential expression in the each chamber of the heart.

    Abstract : Background : This study was aimed to observe the changes in body weight, water intake and hematological data during and after long-term head-down suspension (HOS) in rats. HOS rats induced by tail suspension has evolved as a useful model for the simulation of a microgravity or zero-gravity environment. Methods : Unanesthetized, unrestrained, male Sprague-Dawley rats, weighing 230-270 g, were subjected to either a horizontal position (control horizontal, CH rats) or a 45° head-down suspension (HOS rats) for 4 weeks. We determined the body weight and daily water intake in both CH and HOS rats. Hematological data including white and red blood cell counts, hemoglobin concentration and hematocrit were measured. The characteristics of red blood cell were also calculated from above hematological data in the both rats after 4 weeks of observation. Result: In CH rats, body weight was significantly increased (P<0.05) after 4 weeks of experiment, whereas the body weight of HOS rats was only showed a small increase but was significantly decreased (P<0.05) after 4 weeks of HOS compared with that of CH rats. Daily water intake was increased (P<0.05) after 2 week in HOS rats but the overall changes of the rest period were no difference between both CH and HOS rats. White blood cell counts did not show any changes in both rat groups while red blood cell counts showed a decreasing trend after 4 weeks HOS. After HOS, hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit and mean corpuscular hemoglobin were significantly decreased (P<0.05) compared with CH rats. Conclusion : These results represent that the long-term HOS could attenuate the increase in body weight of young rats and induce the decrease in hematological data, especially in the characteristics of red blood cell.

Atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), C-type natriuretic peptides (CNP) and their receptors are found in the kidney, suggesting that these peptides could play a significant physiological role in the kidney. Therefore, this study was investigated the changes in the adaptations of renal natriuretic peptides and their receptors syntheses after 4 weeks of HDS in rats. Methods: Unanesthetized, unrestrained, male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to either a horizontal position (control rats) or a -45°head-down tilt using the tail-traction technique (HDS rats). This study observed the renal syntheses of natriuretic peptides as a expression of ANP and CNP mRNA, and also determined the expression of A-type natriuretic peptide receptor (NPR-A) mRNA and B-type NPR (NPR-B) mRNA. The expressions of natriuretic peptide and NPR mRNA were measured by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction with [32P]-dCTP following 4 weeks of HDS in the kidney of both control and HDS rats. Results: After 4 weeks of HDS, the expression of ANP mRNA significantly (P<0.01) decreased, while CNP mRNA expression was showed the non-significant increasing trend in the kidney of HDS rats. NPR-A, which binds with ANP, was significantly (P<0.001) decreased in renal mRNA expression of HDS rats compared with controls. Expression in mRNA of NPR-B, which binds with CNP, showed a slightly decreasing trend in the kidney of rats following HDS. Conclusion: These results suggest that the renal adaptation following 4 weeks of HDS exerts to maintain the blood volume and electrolyte balance through attenuation of syntheses in the natriuretic peptide and its binding receptor, especially in ANP rather than in CNP systems.

Natriuretic peptide family including atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP), brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and C-type natriuretic peptides (CNP), and their receptors are responsible for body fluid homeostasis and blood pressure control. However, little is known about the long-term responses and the simultaneous observations of both natriuretic peptide family and their receptors following HDS. This study was analyzed the regulation of cardiac, hypothalamic and renal natriuretic peptides and their receptors syntheses to 4 weeks of HDS in rats. Methods: Unanesthetized, unrestrained, male Sprague-Dawley rats were subjected to either a horizontal position (control rats) or a -45° head-down tilt using the tail-traction technique (HDS rats). This study observed the cardiac, hypothalamic and renal syntheses of natriuretic peptides as a expression of ANP, BNP and CNP mRNA. The mRNA expressions of A-type natriuretic peptide receptor (NPR-A), B-type NPR (NPR-B) and clearance receptor (NPR-C) were also determined. The expressions of natriuretic peptide and their receptor mRNA were measured by reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction with [32P]-dCTP following 4 weeks of HDS in both control and HDS rats. Results: After 4 weeks of HDS, the expressions of ANP mRNA were significantly decreased in the right atrium and the kidney, and showed the non-significant decreasing trend in the left atrium and the hypothalamus of HDS rats. BNP mRNA expressions were decreased in the heart especially in the left atrium, while its mRNA in the left ventricle was showed the non-significant increasing trend following 4 weeks of HDS. The expressions of CNP mRNA were increased in the hypothalamus and showed the non-significant increasing trend in the kidney of the HDS rats. After 4 weeks of HDS, NPR-A mRNA expressions were decreased in the kidney and hypothalamus, but NPR-C mRNA expression was showed the non-significant increasing trend in the kidney of HDS rats compared with controls. Conclusion: These results suggest that the regulation of natriuretic peptide mRNA following 4 weeks of HDS exerts to maintain the blood volume through an attenuation of syntheses in natriuretic peptide family of the heart and the kidney.

    피로위험관리를 위한 조종사 피로측정방법 고찰

    Abstract : Pilot fatigue is a great hazard to aviation safety. In recent years, longdistance fights have been increasing and flight hours have been increasing, which has made fatigue issues important. International organizations in the aviation sectors (ICAO, FAA, IATA etc.) recommend management of fatigue within the SMS (Safety Management System) framework. A scientific and systematic approach to measuring fatigue is required as a prerequisite to preparing safety management measures for pilot’s fatigue. Therefore, in this study, I would like to consider recent trends and implications for fatigue measurement. First, I aimed to consider recent the accident cases related to fatigue. Second, I also considered how to measure the pilot’s fatigue. Finally, the direction of the countermeasures against fatigue through fatigue measurement was developed and suggested.

    알레르기 비염 진단 및 치료, 항공업무 적합성 평가에 있어 항공전문의사의 역할

    Abstract : Since allergic rhinitis is a disease with a very high prevalence, it is common to find patients with allergic rhinitis among aviation workers. However, they are so afraid that the report of rhinitis will have a negative effect on the evaluation of one's work suitability. Therefore, aviation medical examiners (AMEs) must be able to accurately understand the nature of allergic rhinitis, and confidently explain that appropriate treatment of rhinitis has a positive effect on their performance. In the treatment of allergic rhinitis, there are some medications that may cause drowsiness, which may impair the accuracy and safety of the aviation service. Therefore, AMEs should accurately know safe drugs that do not cause drowsiness and prescribe them to patients. In addition, it is necessary to know exactly whether air workers may receive the latest treatments for allergic rhinitis, such as surgical treatment and immunotherapy, and be able to recommend these treatments appropriately. Therefore, in this paper, we first briefly describe the pathophysiology, genetics, causative antigen, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of allergic rhinitis. We also aimed to discuss safe medication and other treatment modalities for allergic rhinitis.

    코로나바이러스감염증-19 (COVID-19)과 항공신체검사

    Abstract : Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has had a significant impact on our society as a whole. The COVID-19 pandemic is not only a health crisis, it is also an economic, social and humanitarian crisis. Considering the dramatic global economic and social impact that the crisis has engendered, the aviation system is standing on the doorstep of rapid transformation. In particular, the impact on the aviation and travel industries is enormous. Air travel to most countries has been suspended and blocked. Looking at Korea’s current situation, COVID-19 has wholly changed the aviation industry. As COVID-19 spreads around the world, countries have come up with aviation safety measures. Infectious disease safety measures were established to protect passengers and crew members, and countries with collapsed medical systems extended the validity period for aviation medical examinations. In Korea, on August 11, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport provided guidance on medical measures related to COVID-19 through an official letter of “Notification of cautions for pilots and air traffic control officers (ATCO) when COVID-19 is confirmed”. Overseas countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom have announced regulations for aviation medical examination regulations in relation to COVID-19, and have set standards for returning to aviation after COVID-19 is confirmed. In this paper, we would like to investigate the regulations for aviation medical examination related to COVID-19.

    최근 5년간 국적항공사 조종사의 항공신체검사 부적합 판정결과

    Abstract : This study aimed to quantify the causes of Korean airline pilots' medical disqualification during 2015~2019. The airline pilot disqualification data is important for grasping what health problems are common to pilots and establishing preventive health care programs. We were able to obtain data from official sources at the Korean Civil Aviation Authority during 2015~2019. The total number of pilots was 29,095, and the number of disqualified professional pilots in Korea was 36. Looking at airline pilots' status by age group, the 40s were the highest with 38%. However, the disqualification rate per 1,000 pilots was the highest in the 60s, at 4.6. When the different diagnostic categories classified the disqualification results, cardiovascular disease was the highest with 12 cases (33.3%), followed by eye disease, malignancy, neurology, psychiatry, otorhinolaryngology, and respiratory disease. The total number of pilots during 2015~2019 was 29,095, and the overall disqualification rate of 1.6/1,000 pilots.

    교대근무 항공정비사의 피로관리 연구

    Abstract : In the case of aviation maintenance work, several kinds of shift works are performed during day and night, and a lot of works are performed on the ramp due to the characteristics of the aircraft flight schedule. Maintenance workers are often exposed to the sun or in cold temperatures for aircraft maintenance works. The fatigue risk of the maintenance workers will be weighted. In particular, the work at night shift under normal biological rhythms can make maintenance workers feel sleepy during daytime work. It can also affect the safety of aircraft and individual workers. Accordingly, this study will consider fatigue-related previous researches in the field of aviation maintenance, review the effects of shift work, and how fatigue affects aviation mechanics during the day/night shifts. Considering these factors, we tried to present a plan that can minimize the fatigue of aviation workers through this study

    Abstract : Internet of Things (IoT) is a technology that communicates data between devices, which are things, using an embedded sensor connected through network backbone such as the internet. Here, data communication technology, sensor technology, and actuator (interface) technology are fused into IoT and it turns devices into smart things. As a result, vast sized data are being generated and that data is being processed into useful actions that can control the things that are devices to make our lives much fruitful. Nowadays, the IoT, early defined as Machine-to-Machine (M2M) connection, becomes a key technology powered by growing innovation of wireless communication trends in the internet connectivity through mobile networking. The total number of pilots was 29,095, and the number of disqualified professional pilots in Korea was 36. Looking at airline pilots' status by age group, the 40s were the highest with 38%. However, the disqualification rate per 1,000 pilots was the highest in the 60s, at 4.6. When the different diagnostic categories classified the disqualification results, cardiovascular disease was the highest with 12 cases (33.3%), followed by eye disease, malignancy, neurology, psychiatry, otorhinolaryngology, and respiratory disease. The total number of pilots during 2015~2019 was 29,095, and the overall disqualification rate of 1.6/1,000 pilots.

    교대근무 항공정비사의 피로관리 연구

    Abstract : In the case of aviation maintenance work, several kinds of shift works are performed during day and night, and a lot of works are performed on the ramp due to the characteristics of the aircraft flight schedule. Maintenance workers are often exposed to the sun or in cold temperatures for aircraft maintenance works. The fatigue risk of the maintenance workers will be weighted. In particular, the work at night shift under normal biological rhythms can make maintenance workers feel sleepy during daytime work. It can also affect the safety of aircraft and individual workers. Accordingly, this study will consider fatigue-related previous researches in the field of aviation maintenance, review the effects of shift work, and how fatigue affects aviation mechanics during the day/night shifts. Considering these factors, we tried to present a plan that can minimize the fatigue of aviation workers through this study

    피로위험관리를 위한 조종사 피로측정방법 고찰

    Abstract : Pilot fatigue is a great hazard to aviation safety. In recent years, longdistance fights have been increasing and flight hours have been increasing, which has made fatigue issues important. International organizations in the aviation sectors (ICAO, FAA, IATA etc.) recommend management of fatigue within the SMS (Safety Management System) framework. A scientific and systematic approach to measuring fatigue is required as a prerequisite to preparing safety management measures for pilot’s fatigue. Therefore, in this study, I would like to consider recent trends and implications for fatigue measurement. First, I aimed to consider recent the accident cases related to fatigue. Second, I also considered how to measure the pilot’s fatigue. Finally, the direction of the countermeasures against fatigue through fatigue measurement was developed and suggested.

    코로나바이러스감염증-19 (COVID-19)과 항공신체검사

    Abstract : Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has had a significant impact on our society as a whole. The COVID-19 pandemic is not only a health crisis, it is also an economic, social and humanitarian crisis. Considering the dramatic global economic and social impact that the crisis has engendered, the aviation system is standing on the doorstep of rapid transformation. In particular, the impact on the aviation and travel industries is enormous. Air travel to most countries has been suspended and blocked. Looking at Korea’s current situation, COVID-19 has wholly changed the aviation industry. As COVID-19 spreads around the world, countries have come up with aviation safety measures. Infectious disease safety measures were established to protect passengers and crew members, and countries with collapsed medical systems extended the validity period for aviation medical examinations. In Korea, on August 11, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport provided guidance on medical measures related to COVID-19 through an official letter of “Notification of cautions for pilots and air traffic control officers (ATCO) when COVID-19 is confirmed”. Overseas countries such as the United States and the United Kingdom have announced regulations for aviation medical examination regulations in relation to COVID-19, and have set standards for returning to aviation after COVID-19 is confirmed. In this paper, we would like to investigate the regulations for aviation medical examination related to COVID-19.

    Abstract : With the operation of the KC-330 MRTT (Multi Role Tanker Transport), which had been fielded in 2019, the ROKAF (Republic of Korea Air Force) has given fighter pilots a new mission of air refueling. As a result, fighter pilots are more likely to be exposed to risks they have never faced before, and it is necessary to look at the risk factors associated with human factors in air refueling missions. Therefore, in this study, an analysis using the HFACS (Human Factors Analysis and Classification System) model was performed for fighter pilots with air refueling qualifications. This study tried to prevent hazard in advance by discriminating the risk factors according to the human factors related to the fighter pilot during the air refueling mission.

    알레르기 비염 진단 및 치료, 항공업무 적합성 평가에 있어 항공전문의사의 역할

    Abstract : Since allergic rhinitis is a disease with a very high prevalence, it is common to find patients with allergic rhinitis among aviation workers. However, they are so afraid that the report of rhinitis will have a negative effect on the evaluation of one's work suitability. Therefore, aviation medical examiners (AMEs) must be able to accurately understand the nature of allergic rhinitis, and confidently explain that appropriate treatment of rhinitis has a positive effect on their performance. In the treatment of allergic rhinitis, there are some medications that may cause drowsiness, which may impair the accuracy and safety of the aviation service. Therefore, AMEs should accurately know safe drugs that do not cause drowsiness and prescribe them to patients. In addition, it is necessary to know exactly whether air workers may receive the latest treatments for allergic rhinitis, such as surgical treatment and immunotherapy, and be able to recommend these treatments appropriately. Therefore, in this paper, we first briefly describe the pathophysiology, genetics, causative antigen, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of allergic rhinitis. We also aimed to discuss safe medication and other treatment modalities for allergic rhinitis.
